Two minutes with a tape measure saves a return. Here is how to measure your dog, plus the sizes and limits for everything we sell.

How to measure your dog

Use a soft tape measure while your dog is standing.

Chest girth: around the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs. This is the measurement that matters most for a harness.
Neck girth: around the base of the neck, where a collar sits.
Weight: step on a scale holding your dog, then subtract your own weight.

Keep the tape snug, not tight. You should be able to slide two fingers under it. Between two sizes? Choose the larger one.

The weight range is a guide. Go by the neck and chest measurements.

Weight is only half of it. Your dog should be able to turn around and lie down inside a carrier or trailer, so compare your dog's length and standing height with the measurements above.

Will it fit my car?

Backseat Hammock Seat Cover: 54 in (137 cm) wide with a base 24 in (61 cm) deep. Measure your back seat from door to door before ordering.
Solo Seat Car Basket: made for one rear seat. Holds dogs up to 88 lb (40 kg), per the supplier.
Buckle-In Seat Belt Tether: the buckle tab is 0.83 in (2.1 cm) wide and the strap adjusts from 16.5 to 26.4 in (42 to 67 cm). Compare the tab with the seat belt tongue in your own car before ordering.

Leashes and long lines

Ridgeline Rope Leash: 6 ft (1.8 m) long, 1/2 in rope. Best for medium and large dogs.
Long-Line Recall Lead: 0.8 in (2 cm) wide, in six lengths. 6 ft for everyday walks, 15 to 23 ft for parks and first recall sessions, 33 to 50 ft for fields and beaches, 100 ft for distance training in open ground.

Playpen

The Campsite Folding Playpen has 8 panels, each 24 x 24 in (61 x 61 cm). Set up as an octagon it is about 63 in (160 cm) across. It suits small and medium dogs. At 24 in high it is not made for large dogs or determined climbers.
