We sell four things for the back seat, and they do different jobs. Two questions sort out which one you need: how big is your dog, and who else rides in the back?
The short version

The back seat belongs to the dog: Backseat Hammock
If nobody else sits in the back, cover all of it. The Backseat Hammock is a seat cover with a board inside the base. The board bridges the gap behind the front seats, so the back row becomes one flat surface instead of a bench with a drop-off. The fabric is waterproof 600D and wipes clean, and a mesh panel between the front seats lets your dog see you.
It is 54 in (137 cm) wide with a base 24 in (61 cm) deep. Measure your back seat from door to door before you order.
People need the other seats: Solo Seat Car Basket
A full bench cover stops working the day someone else needs to sit back there. The Solo Seat Car Basket takes one rear seat. Raised fabric sides keep fur, sand and paw prints inside the basket, and the rest of the row stays free for passengers and bags. It folds flat when you do not need it.
A small dog who wants to see out: Lookout Booster
The Lookout Booster is a raised seat with sides, for dogs up to 25 lb (11 kg). It lifts a small dog up to window height and gives them a spot of their own. The cover zips off, and the manufacturer lists it as machine washable. Outside size is 23 x 22 x 13 in (58.5 x 56 x 33 cm).
Add to any of them: Buckle-In Seat Belt Tether
A cover decides where your dog lies. A tether keeps them there when a door opens. It clicks into the seat belt buckle at one end and onto your dog's harness at the other, and adjusts from 16.5 to 26.4 in (42 to 67 cm). There are two in the pack.
Two things to check. The buckle tab is 0.83 in (2.1 cm) wide, so compare it with the seat belt tongue in your own car before ordering. And clip it to a harness only, never to a collar.
What none of them do
All four keep your dog in one place and your seats clean. None of them are crash-tested, and none of them are safety restraints. If crash protection is what you are shopping for, look for a harness or crate that has been independently crash-tested.
Still deciding?
The size guide has every measurement in one place. If you want the whole setup, the Road Trip Kit is the Backseat Hammock, the tether and a water bottle: add all three to your cart and 10% comes off automatically. Or send us a message with your car model and your dog's weight, and we will tell you what we would pick.
